ADHD ASSESSMENTS

In addition to the general psychiatric conditions we can help with, we also offer an official ADHD Assessment service.

In the UK, it’s though that around 1 in 20 children may have ADHD in some form or another. Historically children with ADHD were simply labelled as badly behaved or poorly parented. Luckily, we’ve come a long way since then and ADHD is now universally recogniosed. More importantly, there are now equally recognised methods of assessing, not only if someone has ADHD but also to what level. At Acorn Psychiatry we fully comply with and follow the guidelines set out by the National Institute For Health And Care Excellence (NICE) in our ADHD assessments, meaning the diagnosis is fully recognised across the NHS and the UK.

WHATS DOES AN ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?

You’ll be asked to fill in Conners 4 Questionnaires (these are specialist diagnostic questionnaires, usually there is one for a parent, the child/ young adult in question and a teacher of the child/ young person)
Close-up of female hands. Woman writing something sitting at her office
You’ll be asked to carry out a Qb check. This is a computer based assessment where the person being assessed is asked to perform some simple tasks on a computer screen
happy family sitting on therapy session by female counselor writing in clipboard in office

At the end of the final assessment with Dr. Eskander, you’ll be given a diagnosis and offered a prescription, should you need or wish it (in the case of a possitive result of ADHD, to a level that we believe would benefit from medication)

If medication is prescribed, you will usually need several follow up appointments while we increase or adapt the dose to suit the child/ young adult. While every case is different, on average we expect there to be 3 to 4 follow ups at 3 to 4 weekly intervals, before stability is achieved.

What happens after things are stable?

We would ask you to have a yearly follow up appointment, just to check on how things are going. We would try and transfer the responsibility of prescriptions back to your NHS GP (Most but not all GP’s are happy to take over prescriptions once things have been shown to be stable for a period of time)

If you’re interested in having an ADHD assessment, please contact us. Our prices for the assessment and follow ups are listed in the fees section of our website
